Laurel KIVUYO
Founder of the Climate Hub Tanzania
In videoconference - Laurel Kivuyo comes from the Maasai community in northern Tanzania and grew up deeply connected to the natural world, as her community's way of life is closely tied to the environment. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Sciences, she is committed to environmental protection and emphasizes the link between mental health and climate change, recognizing that environmental factors can significantly impact well-being.
In 2021, she founded Climate Hub Tanzania, an NGO aimed at empowering young people, particularly women, to tackle the urgent challenges of climate change and environmental pollution. Today, she leads a dedicated team of 5 staff and 3 volunteers who channel resources into innovative climate solutions across Tanzania.
She was also appointed as the Environmental Ambassador within the Vice President's Office of Tanzania, and in 2022, she became the Youth Climate Change Ambassador for the SADC (Southern African Development Community). In these roles, she promotes youth participation in climate governance and political advocacy, while advocating for inclusive climate resilience on both national and international platforms. Laurel’s work and advocacy have earned her numerous accolades and recognition, both nationally and internationally.
