Serge MORAND

Ecologist and Evolutionary Biologist

Serge Morand is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist specializing in parasite ecology. After studying population biology at Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris and the University of Rennes, he completed a Ph.D. in parasite ecology. Recruited by the CNRS, he worked at the Center for Tropical and Mediterranean Ecology at the University of Perpignan and later at the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) before joining the Institute of Evolutionary Sciences at the University of Montpellier in 2006.
As a Research Director at CNRS and an associate researcher at CIRAD, he conducts his studies in Southeast Asia, focusing on the impact of global changes (climate change and land use) on biodiversity, as well as human, animal, and wildlife health. His work examines parasite diversity and its role as an ecological and evolutionary force, with an emphasis on biodiversity conservation and its implications for societies.
