Enki BILAL
Comic Book Author and Director
Born in Belgrade, in the former Yugoslavia, Enki Bilal moved to Paris at the age of ten. He is the author of numerous graphic novels and books that combine writing and illustration, which have been translated into many languages. Among his most famous works are The Black Order Brigade and The Hunting Party (with Pierre Christin), The Nikopol Trilogy, The Dormant Beast, Animal’z, and more recently, the ongoing series Bug.
Enki Bilal is also a scenographer, known for his work on the ballet Romeo and Juliet (Preljocaj-Prokofiev). He has ventured into theater (The Night Just Before the Forests by Koltès, featuring Denis Lavant) and opera.
A highly regarded painter, his works have been exhibited in Paris (including the Louvre) and worldwide, in cities such as New York, Tokyo, New Delhi, Calcutta, Beijing, Belgrade, and Sarajevo. He has also recently contributed two installations to the Venice Biennale (2015, 2017).
Enki Bilal is a filmmaker as well, having written and directed three films: Bunker Palace Hotel, Tykho Moon, and Immortal (ad vitam). @HannahAssouline2019
