Ernst Zürcher is a forestry engineer with a PhD in natural sciences from ETH Zurich. He is an emeritus professor in Wood Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (Biel campus) and was recently a lecturer at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Materials Science and Engineering), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Zurich (Environmental Sciences), and the University of Lausanne (Geosciences, Master's in Sustainability). Based on four years of scientific cooperation in tropical African environments, he continues his research on trees and wood, particularly their chronobiology, carbon sequestration potential, and contributions to living systems. A published author of scientific articles, he regularly gives lectures in Switzerland and internationally, participates in films, supports ecological transition projects, and is also involved in writing.
