Francis HALLÉ

Francis HALLÉ

Botanist and biologist, specialist in trees and tropical forests

Born in 1938, Francis Hallé is a biologist, botanist, and professor at several universities.
His interest and fascination with the ecology of tropical forests and the architecture of their trees have led him to study and explore these forests on every continent. His unconditional passion for drawing has also directed his research towards humid tropics.
In 1985, and for the following 30 years, he led the Radeau des Cimes missions and the scientific aspects of research on tropical forest canopies.
Between 1960 and 2004, he published dozens of scientific papers and authored books for the general public, which have been translated into several languages.
In 2019, he founded the Francis Hallé Association for Primary Forests, and with it, he pursues his dream of seeing the rebirth of an untouched ecological summit in Western Europe: a forest not degraded by humans, managed in "free evolution" with the maximum accumulation of carbon, biodiversity, soil fertility, and beauty.
