Anne LARIGAUDERIE

Anne LARIGAUDERIE

Executive Secretary of IPBES

Dr. Anne Larigauderie obtained her PhD in plant ecology in 1985 and spent the first part of her career as a plant ecologist, studying the impact of climate change on plant physiology and ecology across various ecosystems on multiple continents. She then held several positions at the interface between science and policy. In 2011, she was appointed Executive Director of DIVERSITAS (which became Future Earth in 2014), the international program dedicated to biodiversity science. Anne Larigauderie worked to facilitate, on behalf of the scientific community, the establishment of a mechanism similar to the IPCC for biodiversity. This led to the creation of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in 2012. She became its Executive Secretary and continues today to promote the integration of biodiversity into economic and social strategies, while raising awareness about the issues of biodiversity loss. She is also a strong advocate for the recognition of ecosystem services and better global governance of nature.
