Olivier HAMANT

Olivier HAMANT

Researcher - Biologist / Director of the Michel Serres Institute

Olivier Hamant is a biologist and researcher at INRAE, based at the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon. He is also an author and lecturer, having published around one hundred scientific articles on biophysics and plant development. His research addresses the robustness of living organisms from a novel perspective.
Drawing from this fundamental research, and in his role as director of the Michel Serres Institute, he contributes to several projects at the intersection of art, science, and education that explore the existential challenges of the Anthropocene. His inquiry into the robustness of life informs reflections on lessons learned from living systems for inhabiting the Earth, as explored in his works La troisième du vivant (Éditions Odile Jacob) and Antidote au culte de la performance (Éditions Gallimard).
