Charles GUIRRIEC

Charles GUIRRIEC

Founder of Poiscaille

A passion for the sea, a passion for fishing, and a strong concern for the environment - these are the factors that prompted 40-year-old Charles Guirriec to launch the short seafood circuit in 2015. A risky gamble, when nobody believed in the possibility of succeeding by only offering products from small-scale coastal fishing, thus depriving themselves of the species most consumed in France. 8 years later, the company is a resounding success, with a network of 250 French fishermen and 22,000 subscribers to its Casiers de la mer.
A fisheries engineer and graduate of Agrosup Dijon and Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, he began his career on deep-sea trawlers, observing the by-catches of these large vessels. There he met fishermen who sell directly, and for whom the good selling prices enable them to go out less often.
In 2010, he swapped his foulies for a suit, and joined the French Ministry of Agriculture's Fisheries Department, in charge of energy savings in the fishing industry.
It was in Paris that Charles discovered AMAPs and their vegetable baskets. He was won over by the quality of the produce and the commitment to producers.
