Olivier THEBAUD
Economist in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics
Economist by training, my research focuses on leveraging economic concepts, methods, and analytical tools, in conjunction with knowledge from other marine science disciplines, to inform collective decision-making on the governance of marine and coastal resource use. After a research mobility program at the University of Portsmouth under a European initiative for young researchers, I joined Ifremer’s team of economists in 1998, where I served as team leader for about a decade.
With the goal of strengthening research capacities in social sciences and humanities related to the ocean, I contributed to the founding of UMR AMURE, now one of the largest European research groups specializing in marine economy and law. I served as its director from October 2013 to August 2021.
Additionally, several years at the Marine Research Division of CSIRO (Brisbane, Australia) provided me with valuable insights into the diverse approaches implemented worldwide for ocean governance and underscored the richness of international cooperation in addressing these challenges.
