Building and living differently : Let's take care of our territories
The threats are mounting: climate change, a rapid decline in biodiversity, increased pollution of the air, land, rivers and seas, and growing inequalities. These extreme events are making the headlines, and the massive artificialisation of land has a lot to do with it. Yet cities continue to expand their infrastructures, encroaching on nature and altering watercourses, sometimes to the detriment of local residents. Can we really expand without limit in a world of finite resources, while neglecting the social issues at stake?
This raises the question, which goes well beyond semantics, of how to ‘manage’ our territories instead of ‘developing’ them. The stakes are reversed: it's no longer a question of constraining and adapting territories to our needs, but of imagining a new way of building and living.
